Homing Items

Homing items are used by Realmwalkers to aid them in their return trips to Avarha when visiting other realms. The reminder of home helps them focus their magic to travel.

Manufacturing process

Each Realmwalker has a homing item that is important to them. This can be something they harvested themself or something that was passed down to them from a family member or mentor. In choosing a homing item, Realmwalkers need to be sure the item is small enough to carry on their person, and that they have a way to carry it securely. Most Realmwalkers wear their homing items around their necks on magically strengthened chains to keep them secure. Creating pendants out of items is something Realmwalkers commonly commission jewelers for.

History

Homing items have been used for as long as Realmwalkers have Walked between realms. Some have argued against the use of stone in creating homing items, as sheltering underground within stone caves is how those in Avarha survived Realm Conjunctions before the creation of the Core Anchors, but stone homing items seem to work just fine for the Realmwalkers who use them.

While less common, some members of the general population who are not Realmwalkers also carry what they consider to be homing items. They carry them as a precaution, believing that in the event they are Plucked during a Realm Conjunction, the homing item will help them return home to Avarha in some way.

Significance

Homing items are important for all Realmwalkers to carry. The items work as a focus for the Realmwalker's magic, making it easier to return to Avarha whenever they wish to. Unlike Core Anchors, the homing items don't prevent the Realmwalker from leaving Avarha, so Realmwalkers should wear Core Anchors during Realm Conjunctions when they don't wish to travel, and remember to remove them when they do wish to travel between realms. It is known that Realmwalkers are more likely than non-Realmwalkers to be Plucked during a Conjunction, so the use of Core Anchors is important.

Any material that comes naturally from Avarha can be used. Common materials include wood, bone, leather, stone, and woven grasses.
