Qadir

The Qadir are an ancient people of innovation and resilience hailing from the deserts and oases of the Sultanate of Jur'am. Considered to be the oldest human race still existing in Avalor, their capital city of Jaan'ar is a sprawling metropolis built around a majestic desert oasis, idealized across the realms as the origin of civilization itself. The Qadir revere and attribute their people's history of greatness to Erathis, the goddess of civilization and invention, and their society emphasizes the pursuit of knowledge, creativity, and unity. Scholars, inventors, and philosophers hold positions of great respect in Qadiri society and are rewarded with the democratic right to elect the Ju'ram's sultan.   The Qadir have warm brown to deep tanned skin, dark brown or black straight to wavy hair, and expressive eyes in shades of brown, hazel, or green. Hairstyles are carefully styled into curls, braids, or buns. Beards are seen as a symbol of masculinity and dignity, with Qadiri men curling, braiding, and sometimes dying their facial hair as a sign of status. Qadiri clothing is designed for the desert’s extremes—practical and flowy, often adorned with intricate geometric designs. Many Qadir carry religious tokens such as pendants, sashes, or daggers engraved with prayers to the Lawbearer.
