Revenant

A cursed and mistrusted race. Revenants are those whose souls are trapped in a soul stone or philosopher stone. Forced to live in whatever corpse their stone has been placed in. Revenant are the most recent race to join the 'non feral' races. Revenant are formed when a single soul gains control of the other souls they are trapped with. Or when all the souls merge into one single soul. Revenant are the only race to possibly frighten people more than Vampires. Many cannot forget the legions of Revenant leading armies of skeletons during the age of the godless. The best havens for Revenants have been Waterdeep, Azteca, and ironically enough Norden Reunia.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Sense Revenant come from undead corpses they can be of any race. Sense they are undead most have some form of decomposition. This decomposition is stopped by the soul stone and if wanted can be reversed to some extent. Level of decay is dependent on the condition of the corpse when the stone was placed in it. This means that Revenant do not smell of decay even if they appear so.
All Revenants have what they refer to as a Heart Stone. This stone is also known as a Soul Stone and or Philosopher stone. This stone acts as a vessel for the soul as well as a magical battery of sorts for the body the soul inhabits. The stone is what keeps the Revenant alive. Should a Revenant's body be destroyed their Heart Stone can be transferred to another body. The worst fear of a Revenant is the destruction of their Heart Stone. If the stone is destroyed the soul(s) are lost and cannot be restored. While many theorys of their fates exist, there has yet to be anything considered definitive of the fate of Revenant.

Biological Traits

Revenant have a unique ability that allows them to cut off a limp and replace it with a limp from another corpse. This allows them to replace broken or destroyed limbs and prosthesis. They can even use magic to turn a limb into a sword that deals 1D6 damage if they pay 3 strain per round active.

Genetics and Reproduction

Revenants are unable to have children naturally. However a Revenant couple can join to make a new soul stone from the souls they already contain. With help from Priests of Anubis this soul can be molded into that of a child. Then the parents give a limb for Anubis to create their child's body. Due to the coast and risk this is rarely done.

Growth Rate & Stages

Revenant bodies do not age unless its soul expends some of it's power to do so. Revenant child are rare but not unheard of. Often if a soul gem merges or devolves into the soul of a child the Revenant community searches for a childs corpse to transfer it to. The Shepherds of Anubis often help with this.

Dietary Needs and Habits

While Revenant are indeed undead they do still require nourishment. Revenant diet however consists solely on meat, blood, or anything containing magical energy. It would appear that meat and blood contain magical energy within them that charges the soul stones of Revenants. Revenants however can go weeks without eating as long as they are not using magic or taking damage.

Social Structure

Revenant adopt the customs and structure of the lands they are from and live in. They don't have much of a racial culture. Though some are attempting to create one in Waterdeep and Kennicott City where many Revenant live.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Many Revenant especially children Revenant are kidnapped and killed to harvest their heart/soul stones. Others are kidnapped by mages who attempt to erase their soul and gain undead slaves. The Order of the Black Rose and Knights Teutonic have partnered with most nations in an attempt to stop this.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Revenant have mixed sensory capabilities. It seems that some are able to use their stones to increase their senses. Others are able to channel their stones to increase their ability to perform magic.

Civilization and Culture

Beauty Ideals

Because Revenant have some form of decomposition outward appearance isn't considered as important as it is by other races. Many due still use their power to look as normal as possible to ease the feelings of others.

Sense Revenant are unable to have children naturally gender has no meaning to them.

Revenant courtship is based on the ideals of their parent race.

Relationship Ideals

Revenant partners are expected to be strong and resourceful. This is to help both have greater chances of surviving the dangerous world they live in.

Common Taboos

Grave digging: Revenant are forbidden by law to dig up graves in order to replace limbs. Should a Revenant need a limb they must go to a Shrine or Temple of Anubis and see if anyone has willing donated a limb.
