Personal history

Peter grew up in Moon Mill, Prussia, raised by loving parents. He was very close with his younger sisters, and did everything he could to help his parents. His father was a farmer and his mother was a seamstress. They were fairly well off but lived modestly. Peter learned to speak at a very early age and was soon taught reading and writing after that. He hungrily sought after more and more books than their house had, and so his father would take him to the capitol when they would sell their wares. Peter was very protective of his younger sisters and, even though not everything was sunshine and rainbows, the four of them got along swimmingly.

Peter discovered alchemy at the age of 10 in a book, and became entranced by it. He studied every alchemical book he could get his hands on and practiced in his spare time. He discovered he had a natural affinity for it and began to share his progress with his parents. They arranged to send him to the capitol to learn from the nation's best, and when he was 12 he was sent to Berlin to study formally.

He stayed at Berlin's academy until he was 16, absorbing everything like a sponge. However, he had very little patience for the pace in some of his classes and taught himself what he wanted to learn next. This caused a little bit of friction between him and some of his teachers, but in his single-minded focus on gaining knowledge, it didn't bother him much. The headmaster placed him in advanced classes to match his pace, and Peter excelled and grew even more. At 16 he received a letter from his mother saying that his father had grown ill and was unable to tend the farm. His sisters were taking over the farm duties. She didn't ask him to, but Peter abandoned the rest of his education to take care of the family farm.

Eventually, Peter's father did regain his health and strength, but Peter stayed with his family. He'd missed his family too much, and the brief holidays he'd taken hadn't been nearly enough for him. Peter continued to study on his own, but he also spent time with his sisters. Eventually however, the itch to go out and see the world beyond his country's borders began to grow stronger. With his father's blessing and his mother's encouragement, he set about preparing to leave the country. He took his meager savings and a few of his favorite books, kissed his weeping sisters goodbye, hugged his mother and father, and set off to the north.

A basic formal education in his growing up years. When he turned 12 he was sent to Berlin's academy to learn more about alchemy and further his stores of knowledge. He abandoned his formal education at 16 to help his family's farm, and stayed even after his help was no longer needed. Everything he's learned since then has been self-taught.

Mental Trauma

The memory of dealing with the Aryans captured by the grindylows still haunts him. He grew up with a deep love of Prussia, and a deep gratitude for the ancestors that broke away from the bloody Aryans. To see the descendants of that horrific people unsettled him deeply, especially having grown up hearing that they had all died out. At the grindylows' insistence to prove his loyalty, he killed one of the Aryans, who taunted him about being a weaker people. Oddly enough, despite his fixation on why the Aryans were there in the first place, he hasn't given himself time to process the cold-blooded killing of the Aryan.

Peter will try for diplomacy first, trying to avoid conflict. Allies need to be made, after all. Only when he senses that diplomacy isn't working will he resort to violence.

Family Ties

Aryan mother and Nordic father. There is a family legend that Peter's father is descended from Wilhelm Hoffman, but that story is mostly told by his grandfather and he's getting on in years so he's not as lucid as he used to be.

Religious Views

Peter knows the gods exist (they've made their presence too obvious to ignore), but he doesn't actively worship one god. Growing up his family prayed to Artemis (the Norden patron goddess and guardian angel of Prussia). He and his sisters were taught to always thank the goddess for fortune, pray to her in times of trouble, and honor her festivals. During their adventures Peter has been a little neglectful, but the appearance of a green-cloaked deity and recent experiences have prompted him to start paying more attention.

Peter is quiet, usually the type to sit and observe a conversation before inserting himself. Also viewed as a nerd, due to his glasses and how his nose is almost always in a book if he’s not needed for anything important at the moment. Has developed a formal tone when talking to those in authority.

He's a MASSIVE bookworm, and will read anything and everything he can get his hands on. He carries at least one book on his person, no matter where he's going.

Speaks with a Germanic accent, which hardens and grows thicker when he's emotional. "Scheisse" is the first word out of his mouth when something goes wrong.
