El and Ashera Myth in Avalon | World Anvil

El and Ashera

Declared by the other gods and their father and mother. El and Ashera have not appeared in this plane of existence as of yet. The other gods state this is because the Earth was to be their world with El and Ashera only by standards. However when the gods started to fight among themselves El and Ashera stepped in to prevent a full destruction. Now that the gods are back the roles of El and Ashera haven't been totally defined. All gods revere El and Ashera and while they do not punish others for worshiping El and Ashera seem to prefer if mortals did not.

El and Ashera have the strictest rules when it comes to their cullt. Most coming from Judeo-Christian and Islam teachings. Their cults focus on living the best life possible while learning how to overcome natural vises. Much of their image of an after life comes from the mysterious book Apocrypha of the Eldar which tells of El and Ashera creating the worlds and fighting off other Eldar who sought to destroy all creation.

The cult of El and Ashera is generally made up of humans though some High and Blood Elves have been known to join as well. Mostly found in Avalon they are mostly seen as conspiracy nuts who have yet to adapt as its members are forbidden from worshiping any other Gods or Goddess.

Most people who worship the other Gods and Goddess also worship El and Ashera on a smaller scale or at least revere them as the Parents of the Gods/Goddess they do worship.

Historical Basis

While accounts of an El and Ashera are found in the Ancient Middle East Athena and Zeus have both stated El to be the god of the Jewish and Christian bible and the Allah of the Islamic Koran. Why each religion has differing rules is unknown. Athena has speculated that perhaps each had knowledge given to them and opportunity to gain more but somehow missed or ignored it. Thus only having what they had originally been given which was then added to by mortals. However she herself has said El has not told her why nor has she asked. Believing he had his reasons.

Spread

Mainstream El and Ashera worship revolves around the Bible, Koran, and Book of Mormon and seeking purification from the evils of mortal life. While many tenants from these faiths are found in the cults of the other Gods, those who worship El and Ashera seem to be much stricter about what is allowed and what is not.

Some have taken their belief that El is the one true God to cut out mention of Ashera altogether and consider worshiping her and the other gods as idolatry. This thinking however has become more rare with the publication of the Apocrypha of the Eldar. Most of these more radical worshipers live on the boundaries of Avalon and are mostly humans seeking to destroy the new world and go back to world before the Great Cataclysm.
