The Seekers of the Way

The Age of Exploration has brought with it the growth of literacy and education and a flourishing of political and philosophical thought. For all the benefits of this intellectual renaissance, it has also destabilized the long established social order as new, radical ideas begin to permeate through the societies of the Old World. The most famous (or infamous) product of the phenomenon is the clandestine organization known as the Seekers of the Way. The Seekers are a semi-secret revolutionary group that originated in Glaraia but has since spread across the world. They are a militant organization dedicated to new-age, enlightened principles of liberty and human progress. The seekers work from the shadows to undermine the old, aristocratic social order, and bring about an egalitarian transformation of Eridasian society.
The seekers are principally based in the Free Cities and Quelleron, where they find common ideological ground with the inhabitants, but they have branches located throughout the known world. They are especially active in the New World colonies where central authority is generally weaker. The Seekers have either covertly organized or openly supported numerous coups, rebellions, and assassinations over the course of the last half century. These efforts have thus far had only limited success, but that has not stopped them from striking terror into the crowned heads of Eridas. The upper classes generally view the Seekers as a dangerous rogue element that threatens the natural order of society. To the poor, downtrodden, and disenfranchised however, the Seekers are a symbol of hope and the promise of a better world to come.
