Kingdom of Ixital

The port city of Ixital in southeastern Austrolaria was the second city of the ancient Lizard Empire. After the fracturing of the empire and the destruction of Oxacalla, it became the foremost of the emergent lizard city- kingdoms. The re-discovery and restoration of Oxacalla represents a major threat to Ixital’s position of hegemony over the other lizard cities, and the two kingdoms have clashed several times over the last 100 years. Ixital is smaller and less populated than its rival, but its 1800 year tradition of stable self government gives it a distinct advantage over its relatively young and notoriously infighting prone adversary.
Ixital’s geographic position as an eastward facing port and its proximity to the Old World colonies have made it an important point of connection between the Old World and the New. In the centuries since first contact Ixital’s ancient harbor has become a vital center of trans-continental trade between the two hemispheres. For this reason, Ixital and the eastern cities who swear fealty to it are traditionally more welcoming of outsiders and open to cooperation with Old World colonists than most lizard kingdoms. By contrast, Oxacalla and the western cities in its sphere of influence are more xenophobic and isolationist.
