Kingdom of Felderen

he Kingdom of Felderen is Galaria’s northern neighbor and foremost rival. It dominates the region of Westmarch from the Silver Mountains to the shores of the Great Sea. Felderen is primarily a commercial and mercantile empire, drawing its strength from its expansive trade networks and its many far-flung colonies. It is also the world’s pre-eminent naval power, using its mighty fleet to safeguard its business interests abroad and keep the trade flowing smoothly.   In the 7th Century GR, the merchant cities of Westmarch were subjugated by the kings of Galaria. The Westmarchers long chafed under the rule of the southron kings and sought to break free from their overlordship. In the 11th Century GR the dragon rider and legendary warrior Aledar Hamerhand, Lord of Whiteharbor, assembled a coalition of allied city states and drove the Galarians from Westmarch once and for all. Afterwards he was elected king of the newborn kingdom of Felderen.   Since the discovery of the New World, Felderen has grown enormously rich and influential. Their early arrival to the colonization scramble and indomitable navy have allowed the Kings of Felderen to dominate New World commerce, raising them to a position of preeminence among the kingdoms of Eridas. Fate alone can tell whether this newfound golden age will stand the test of time.   Since its inception as an ad-hoc alliance of rebel cities, The Felderian government has always ruled with a light touch. The kingdom is closer to a confederation than a centralized empire, with each of the great merchant cities enjoying a considerable amount of autonomy. The central government in Whiteharbor is a constitutional monarchy. Its kings share power with a bicameral parliament composed of an aristocratic chamber of barons, and an elected chamber of burghers.   The Felderians have a reputation for being stern, serious, and businesslike. They are a sturdy and industrious people who value honesty, forthrightness, and dependability above all else. Felderian society is somewhat more egalitarian than that of the other kingdoms of men. The privileges and powers of the hereditary nobility are curtailed by the rule of law and the edicts of parliament, and the merchant and professional classes sit side by side with the nobles in the halls of power. As business is the lifeblood of their empire, their society is also heavily mercantile and commercial. Though they are brave and stalwart in battle, they are typically more disposed to commerce than warfare when circumstances allow.
