Fey

The fey are the mischievous trickster spirits of the natural world. They reside in the wild places of the world and generally don’t associate with mortals except to protect the wilderness from harm, and perhaps play the occasional prank for their own amusement. Most of them hail from Terras, the plane of earth and nature, but different kinds of fey can be found on other worlds as well. The most common types of fey include sprites, dryads, treants, and hags. They fey are neither wicked and cruel like demons, or pure and benevolent like the couatls. Instead, they are usually self-interested and withdrawn, largely indifferent to humans unless they are angered. Thousands of years ago the fey were abundant in the material world. As technology and urbanization have expanded however, and civilization has encroached on the wilderness, the fey have steadily retreated from the world. Today, one would be hard pressed to find one in all but the most remote of places, or on the outer planes.
