Lore 3 - Death

The boundary that divides Life from Death is at best shadowy and vague. Who shall say where the one ends, and where the other begins?   Death is not the end in the world of Austera. Every being, from the worker ant on the ground to the mightiest of kings, has a purpose. The weavers of fate, that cut short the strings of life, reweave the dead back into the pattern of the world. Reincarnate and die, reincarnate and die, reincarnate and die, world without end.   Life, however, is not without hope. When ones purpose is finally achieved, they are given the chance to become a god. In The Beyond, they are put before a dais of the other gods, heroes of old. Questioned and tested, the soul fights for the right to enter their ranks. Upon becoming a god, you can start to affect the physical world; the rain that ends droughts, the wind that fills sails, a wispier into the ear of a devoted follower. Even the gods have limits, if they want to truly interact with Austera, they need a champion.   There are ways to avoid death like revivals and miracles, but that can't always work. When a god deems a man too important to fail, they can approach him and make an offer. If they choose to become that god's champion, they can be given another chance without reincarnation. This is exceedingly rare.   Death never takes the wise man by surprise, he is always ready to go.
