The Tradelands

The trade-lands are a neutral region between the three major countries/continents/cultural groups of this world. As the name suggests, it holds the primary trading routes between the Kishtaulians of the North, Castrovarians to the east and the S group to the west.

Geography

This landmass was primarily the result of the S-Continental plate, the K-Continental plate and a smaller tectonic plate pushing together. Consequentially, the vast majority of the land is hilly - more so to the west where a large mountain range can be found. Many streams and rivers can be seen throughout the region, and old canals connect some of them in the highlands. Wetlands are also common, partially the result of the large amounts of rainfall the region gets throughout.   The canals were initially built to aid trade within the region. However, because of the low population, the vast majority are poorly maintained. In most cases, this has just caused lock systems to break down and silt to build up in canal channels. In some instances, this has caused the canal to dry up where the river has diverted upstream. In other instances, this has caused rivers to dry up from the water diverting through the canal to another river.   The temperature within this region varies from the tropical south to the more temperate north where the land connects to the northernmost continent. The cooler mountain air encourages stormy weather when it mixes with the tropical south. Hurricanes and Tornadoes are common occurrences, especially throughout the spring.

Natural Resources

The tectonic mountain-range offers a vast amount of mineable material such as precious metals, precious stones & various igneous and metamorphic rocks.   On the surface, wetlands create good habitats for a vast variety of plants and animals. Some of the bogs and fens hold sources of peat that form just below the surface.   Along and near the coastal regions, salt deposits and salt crystals can be found. These are most common around 30 degrees from the equator but can also be found elsewhere.
