The Republican Schism

Disaster / Destruction

In the Draconic Age

The Enlightened Republic and it's egalitarian ideals, would cause rifts within all of the Draconic societies and empires. While Imperial Draconia writ large would never allow slaves to have a say in political affairs, the Republic would allow slaves to purchase their freedom, own property, and even be elected to advisory positions to the Dragons themselves. While Humani, Dwarmish, Ella and Weres would never sit atop regional or national political power, they would be allowed limited economic and political freedom.

While Humani, Dwarmish, Ella and Weres would never sit atop regional or national political power, they would be allowed limited economic and political freedom.   The Enlightened Republic would ban slave combat games, would allow slaves to purchase their freedom and would allow children born to free folk to remain as such. While the People of the Enlightened Republic would never serve in positions of national political power, they were allowed to join the bureacracy, form elected advisory councils to the dragons, and even serve as officers in the newly reformed legions. The result was a flowering of Humani, Were, Ella and Dwarmish cultures as well as an economic boom in the Republic.   As this lead to a clear record of success for the Enlightened Republic, other draconic nations incurred trouble as clutches of younger dragons began demanding similar changes. In this period of upheaval, the factions of younger dragons would drive their empires into change and even revolution. While some new nations were built, the elder dragons, by the end of teh Schism, had finally flexed their power and put an end to the rebellions from below. As the political and social situation cooled, the elder dragons would hatch their own scheme to regain control.
