Lepidon "Mothfolk"

Creatures of the Night

Lepidons are a race of winged humanoids that share a lot of traits with insects like moths. They are a nocturnal folk who prefer to be active during the night, and rest during the day. Though it is not uncommon for lepidons to do the reverse. They are known to be a relatively reclusive and compassionate race, choosing to mingle among themselves and close friends of other races, than choosing rather to “be in the spotlight”.

Float like a Butterfly, Sting like a Bee

Lepidon culture dictates that everyone should be trained to be able to not only fend for themselves, but be able to contribute something to the community. As such, lepidons are known to make excellent soldiers and merchants. This in and of itself, attracts the attention of outsiders to their communities. Lepidons are not strangers to allow travellers or adventurers to pass through their communities in the Underdark. They are not innate killers, though they are innately skeptical. Should an outsider act up and pose a problem to the community, lepidons are confident they can deal with the outsiders swiftly and effectively.

Relations with Others

Though many lepidons wander the world hidden within their wing-formed cloaks, it is not uncommon for them to seek companions or friends from time to time. They care little for appearances of a creature, often dismissing other people’s remarks on trolls, red orcs, or sprites, and caring more for a creature’s personality and beliefs. This makes them more open to work and talk with people of radically different physiology than theirs, but also more selective of who they think deserve to be called their friend. For a typical lepidon community in the Underdark, the only other race they regularly converse with are myconids, as many myconids embody what a lepidon would deem, “trustworthy”.

Lepidon Names

A lepidon’s first name is chosen by its parents with the help of the community. This first name will be followed by the name of the community itself, so as to officially link the lepidon and it’s origin. A lepidon that is exiled by it’s community (for reasons mainly attributed to directly harming said community) will be forbidden to use this second name until welcomed back. Below are a list of examples of what a common lepidon name could be.
Names: Ace of Yellowcomb, Admiral of Longvale, Dot of Bloodvein, Emerald of Tent, Hawk of Underwing, Ilia of Havenward, Imperius of Underfrost, Isabella of Grimsby, Luna of Bury, Minerva of Undercove, Painter of Magpie, Skipper of Cadmium, Sphinx of Firestone, Tremble of Clearwing, Weaver of Opal, Woolly of Tigermaw
