Gernika
"By Brass and Gear we are Made. By Brass and Gear we are undone"
-Malia Tellurus, Sage of the Adherent of the Manifold
Geography
The planet overall is green like tarnished brass, the planet being artificial is made mostly of a material known as Gernikan Brass. While incredibly resistant to corrosion, hundreds of thousands of cycles without proper maintenance has done some damage. As compared to most planets, Gernika is largely flat, mostly lacking in natural highs and lows of more artificial land. This is because the outer shell of the planet is covered in massive round plates, each identified by numbers located in the Control Tower, better known as the Brass Citadel. Most of the planets mass is beneath the plates that cover the planet. The land beneath is hollow and filled with ancient technology and mysteries. Settlements and labs, and most importantly water, which is created by large Water Condensers that draw water essence to them.
Ecosystem
Unlike the other planets, Gernika has a stable weather pattern.. in that it doesn't really have one. It's always sunny, and always dark when appropriate. The ancient weather control system still operational and still being maintained by the Gnomish inhabitants. Most sources of plant and animal like are concentrated into Hydroponic farms, while there are animals that have escaped the farms, they concentrate mostly around broken pipes or abandoned cisterns, where water can still be reasonably found. Most creatures that roam on the plates are not alive at all, they are ancient automatons built for a variety of purposes, including security. A lot of ancient machines still travel the lands, and consider the locals a form of vermin. Vermin to be exterminated.
Ecosystem Cycles
Gernika does not have seasons in the typical sense, they track time via the flooding of the Vermilion Current. They did not have a true idea of Summer, Winter, Spring or Fall until they made contact with other lands.
Localized Phenomena
The ninth and thirteenth plate experience an event called reconstructions, where the plates will randomly sink deep beneath the surface, sometimes for decades. During this time thousands of vicious, newly constructed automatons would climb out of the plates and spread out the land causing havoc everywhere they go. The locals have learned that as long as they don't make too much effort to destroy the current automatons, new ones won't come out the plates. Making this a controlled phenomenon.
History
Gernika has existed for as long as written record has been made. The Planet was officially name when Enthir Furth, an apprentice of Sage Tellurus, mispronounced the name in a public forum. The name stuck, and it's proper name, Garnikus would never gain much in the way of traction. Gernika was settled by four races, the first which were the gnomes, who are the most populous among it's residents, they make their homes on the first through fifth plates. Their leading body, the Cracked Cog, making their capital in the Commander Center of the Installation, known better as the Brass Citadel. The next most populous race are the Elves, who have changed to create two distinct kinds, High Elves, and Brass Elves. They live in seventh, eighth and ninth plates, where the largest of the Hydroponics farms are. The Brass Dwarves live beneath the plates, spread out, making homes for themselves in forgotten halls, and abandoned tunnel ways. Last but not least are the humans, they largely live amongst the gnomes and elves, serving as assistants and labor for those that rule, but human nations do exist on the bend, a massive dent in the side of the planet. Benders risk their lives daily to recover usable or valuable objects.
Gernika's rise to prominence began with the creation of the Adherent of the Manifold, better known as the star seekers. These Men and Gnomes that were under the Tutelage of Malia Telurus recovered the manifold of the stars from the brass citadel's depth after destroying a automation known only as the overseer. These people translated the book, giving them the knowledge to innovate in new fields of science, as well as maintain and even repair some of the technology they are surrounded by. The Students would give this information freely to the other sapients on these lands.
This resulted in Gernika having the first well educated populace in the Ring. This would lead them to create the first forms of true arcane magic, magical items of various kinds, and even Essence Conductors, which can manufacture essences, if given enough time. These impetuous people would be the first to create a manageable form of space travel. Even if the Corsikans stole it almost immediately.
At this time, Gernika is a Bastion of Knowledge and Experimentation, here interesting things happen.
