The Shadow Islands Session 0

General Summary

Couple housekeeping items:
  • I am extremely open and very direct. If you have a question, concern, problem with myself or another player, please do not hesitate to let me know!
  • This is meant to be fun, so keep me in the loop on what you are enjoying or not enjoying. I won't say it will change if you tell me, but it certainly will not change if I do not know... i will frequently ask for feedback and look for it!
  • There is slavery and violence in the game, including potentially things like rape, but I don't typically target a player with such things directly... it's more stuff that has or is happening in the world, but if this bothers you, I need to be aware so I don't traumatize you
  • - Think about any limits... like maybe dentistry is super tramatic for you - Or animal abuse - etc - This can change as we go. If something comes up that makes you uncomfortable, we will remove it... same for anyone else.
  • 60/40 RP and exploration vs combat, it is a STORY based campaign
  • I am not a D&D expert, but I am the final call at the table
  • - I will get some rules wrong sometimes - I will 'wing it' at times to keep things moving - I reserve the right to bend or make up rules as I see fit and will adjust on the fly regularly to fit the story, the situation, the real world clock, etc.
  • I reserve the right to roll privately as a DM at my discretion.
  • - Good example of this is death rolls, sometimes I will choose to do this - Another good example is looking for traps
  • I am running this in foundryvtt - and although I put a lot of time in, I don't have everything built out nor will it always work 100% correctly, I ask for patience as we play!
  • --------

  • We are XP based, but I am controlling the XP
  • nat 20 always hit, nat 1 always has unique stuff
  • Level up only happens on a Long Rest
  • Long rest can only happen in a safe place
  • Potions (specifically healing potions) are a **bonus action**
  • Flanking IS allowed (advantage)
  • PVP is not anticipated and should be avoided
  • This is a 'general good' campaign and your character should reflect this
  • - Not murder hobo - Not evil
  • Character death is a possibility (as is TPK), post death we will discuss and decide how best to deal with it
  • I do track your weight and it is casually enforced
  • I do track food and it is casually enforced (ie: you must have supplies to short rest or long rest), not gonna lie, it's a little ad-hok, but I want it in the game in some form or another
  • This is season 1 of 3-4. Should take 3-6 months and will take your character to approximately level 8

      Welcome, Adventurers, to Verdant Isle!
Your journey begins in the small, salt-weathered fishing village of Gudhorkan. Perched on the edge of the Republic of Solaris, Gudhorkan is a place where the ocean breeze carries secrets from the deep, and life moves with the ebb and flow of the tides. The village’s few scattered farmhouses, the outdoor market, and the lively Salted Anchor pub hold the tales of generations of seafarers, all under the watchful eye of the island’s dense jungle.
By chance (or perhaps fate), you’ve all found yourselves traveling along the same beaten trail near the village, not far from the pub and just off the beach, where the waves roll and hiss against the sand. Here, the paths of strangers will cross, and choices made in this quiet moment will ripple outward, setting the course for everything that follows.
As you take in your surroundings, you feel the quiet of the village settling around you, tinged with a sense of foreboding—as though something stirs beneath the surface, waiting to be uncovered. Gudhorkan’s folk, like the sea itself, are wary yet resilient, familiar with both the beauty and the dangers that the ocean and jungle bring. But shadows have begun to gather along the edges of this peaceful place, hinting at something darker lurking on the island.
The four of you find yourselves meeting here, on this path by the sea, drawn together by circumstances yet to be revealed. The village of Gudhorkan may seem a quiet start, but beneath its calm exterior lies the potential for mysteries and dangers beyond imagination. Whatever has brought you here, your fates are now intertwined on this windswept isle.
Welcome to Verdant Isle, adventurers. What secrets will you uncover, and what shadows will you face?
      Your story begins now.
