1st Division "The Gilded Sons"

"Through Gold, We Forge Glory."

The 1st Division of the Imperial Order is a standard army formation within the Iron Legion, known for its flowing gold cloaks that are a signature of all the Legion's forces. While a standard formation, the 1st Division holds a critical role as the vanguard, often being the point of the spear in Emperor Lucious Raventide’s military campaigns. This division is the first to engage in battle, serving as the primary force for many of the Empire's operations, whether they involve offensive strikes or defensive positions. They are the first to encounter the enemy and frequently spearhead the most critical missions on the front lines.

Currently led by Commander Titus Gabriel, a veteran officer renowned for his leadership and tactical acumen, the division is also supported by Cilene Rose, a powerful sorcerer whose expertise in arcane magic helps the division counter any magical threats or anomalies they may encounter on the battlefield. Her skills ensure that the division can hold its ground against both mundane and magical adversaries, enhancing their capabilities in a variety of combat scenarios.

Composition and Organization

The 1st Division is composed of a mix of infantry, cavalry, and artillery, making it a versatile and well-rounded formation suited for a variety of battlefield roles. Soldiers in the 1st Division undergo rigorous training and are equipped with the finest weapons and armor available to the Iron Legion. While the division may not specialize in a single aspect of warfare, it excels at being adaptable and efficient in many types of combat situations. The infantry of the 1st Division is composed primarily of highly disciplined legionaries who are trained in formation tactics, spear combat, swordsmanship, and shields. These soldiers are the backbone of the division, often forming tight ranks and executing disciplined, coordinated attacks. The cavalry units are swift and aggressive, used for shock tactics, flanking maneuvers, and swift pursuit of retreating enemies. They are especially feared for their ability to charge into enemy lines with overwhelming force. Artillery units, such as ballistae, catapults, and mangonels, are integrated into the 1st Division for sieging, ranged combat, and providing support fire during engagements. These units can lay down a withering barrage of fire, breaking enemy lines before the infantry and cavalry move in for the kill.

Composition
  • Core of the Division: The bulk of the 1st Division is made up of highly trained infantry, forming the backbone of the division. These soldiers are the elite of the elite, each one trained in both standard combat techniques and specialized tactics suited to the Imperial Order’s needs.
  • Cohorts: The infantry is split into several cohorts, typically around 100 soldiers each, to allow for both flexibility and organized command structure. These cohorts would be led by captains, and each would have a mix of:
  • Legionaries: Heavily armored soldiers skilled with swords and shields, trained for both close combat and defensive maneuvers.
  • Archers: Highly disciplined ranged combatants armed with longbows or crossbows, capable of providing long-range support and harassing enemy forces from afar.
  • Shock Troops: Heavily armored infantry or soldiers armed with greatswords, polearms, or maces, who charge in to break enemy lines and disrupt formations.
  • Spearmen: These soldiers are armed with spears or halberds and form a defensive line, designed to hold enemies at bay or counter cavalry charges.
  • Tactics: The infantry is trained in tight formations for siege warfare, field engagements, and defensive holdouts. The division’s infantry excels in coordinated strikes, employing flanking tactics and quick repositioning to overwhelm the enemy.

Cavalry Regiment (Around 50-100 Soldiers)
  • The 1st Division has a single cavalry regiment, but it is a vital component of the division. Although small in number, these mounted soldiers provide the mobility and flexibility needed for tactical superiority.
  • Light Cavalry: These cavalry units are highly mobile, designed for scouting, harassing enemy lines, and delivering quick strikes. Armed with lances, sabers, or light crossbows, they excel in hit-and-run tactics.
  • Heavy Cavalry: This smaller unit within the regiment is used for shock charges—delivering devastating blows to fragile enemy flanks or breaking siege lines. They are equipped with heavy armor, lances, and swords.
  • Cavalry Command: The regiment is commanded by a captain or a veteran officer who coordinates with the infantry to ensure synchronized attacks. The cavalry is often used to outmaneuver the enemy or exploit weak points that the infantry can then exploit.
  • Role in the Division: The cavalry is typically used for reconnaissance, pursuit, and to apply pressure where the enemy’s defenses are weakest. While the division’s primary strength is in infantry, the cavalry ensures that the division can strike fast when needed and control the battlefield.
