Insectini
Insectini were initially made by a mad wizard that planned to destroy his enemies in a tide of humanoid insects. His plans fell apart when the creation gain more sentience than he intended, and the insectini decided be a peaceful race leaving the wizard in his tower. Going out into the world to form communities that would late be called Hives. While the insectini were a young race they had many lessons to learn.
Their gestation time is very short, easily leading to overpopulation problems if left unchecked. This became a culture of honoring each birth and a sense of duty to maintain a status quo while in times of peace. During war times or after great tragedies a hive could declare a genusca. Each birth is still treated highly, but a unique part of the insectini biology allows for ensuring multiples in each birth (often being triplets or greater) to repopulate the hive.
Due to their faceted eyes, insectini were considered rude by one of the first races they met for not making eye contact. This led to a few clashes before they adopted a culture of using masks while trading or marking their hands with false eyes to “maintain” eye contact.
The difficulties with other races also led to the insectini being isolationists for some time. This kept the race as a tight knit community even after they became more accepted. This also led to exile being one of the harshest punishments a criminal could be given in a hive, and often seen as worse than death. Often a lone insectini would be highly dangerous to all that crossed its path since it had nothing to lose. Exile is still the ultimate shame for the race. However, leaving a hive to pursue your own life was known as spreading your wings, and returning was encouraged, to share the story of your flight.
Insectini were made from magic, and with their reverence for birth, they see magic as a maternal figure. Those who learn how to use it or can innately are seen as blessed by The Mother, and some scholars speculate that this is an aspect of Nethys the insectini brought into existence. This blessing is also seen as a responsibility, where the magic user must use their gift to be a parent to those around them, providing healing services, advice, lessons or defense to any younger. This applies to adventuring groups as well, where the insectini capable of casting will view their group as their responsibility.
As a race, insectini tend towards lawful due to their culture of responsibility to the hive. Each person has a role to perform, and because each role is fulfilled the quality of life in a hive is excellent. Insectini are adverse to chaotic behavior, but weirdly this leads to rogue and thief being sanctioned “jobs” to be performed. The stolen coins or goods are used and enter back into the hive’s economy. Social services help the victims and ensure nobody suffers unduly. The skills of the guards are also kept sharp or are tested. As long as a “criminal” does not injure anyone to the point of debilitation or death, they can lead a normal life. Assuming the number of “criminals” in a hive do not exceed what it can sustain. This quirk of their logic has led to some incidents with outsiders and with rogues that are spreading their wings.
