The Spark

For centuries, the phenomenon known as "the Spark" has been a point of curiosity and, at times, fear. Those who can manipulate the Spark have the ability to warp the fabric of reality itself: conjuring matter from nothing, mending fatal wounds, and bending the minds of those around them. Before its dissolution, the Grand Archive was a repository of knowledge regarding the Spark and all of its forms. Now, mans' knowledge on the subject is relegated to rumor and personal experience.

The Arcane Branches

The Spark presents in two distinct forms: the black spark and the white spark. In addition to manifesting in different ways, the two branches have different effects on the physical world and the arcanists that practice them. Most practitioners can only manifest one of the two branches, but there are rare cases in which both are present. This results in a branch known as the "grey spark" - a manifestation as destructive as it is magnificent.

Black Spark

• Also known as the Raw Spark
• Pulls energy from the surrounding environment
• Takes the form of fire, lightning, and other elements
• Associated with theurgists and warcasters

White Spark

• Also known as the Pure Spark
• Channels the energy of the user
• Elementally unaligned energy
• Associated with healers and the faithful

Grey Spark

• Also known as the Tainted Spark
• Channels raw energy through the user
• Unstable and dangerous
• Associated with hedges and shamans

Artifice

The science of artificing is a juxtaposition of technology and arcana. Where most arcanists channel energy through themselves or the world around them, artificers employ strange devices to imbue objects and markings with the Spark. Bypassing themselves as a conduit makes this form of arcana less prone to surges, but much less malleable. It is for this reason that most seasoned arcanists view artifice as "pseudo-arcana."
