Overall it is a simple item, only needing a slightly seperated demon core, inside a weakened nuclear missile and a propulsion system. Once it hits its target it allows the demon core to connect, mixing with the already reacting fissile material inside the bomb.
History
During the 1840s in Enotis, a military scientist by the name of Ediye Fers, who was wrought with grief after returning home to a murdered wife, had decided to explore the Sickly Forest(now known as the U-235 forest) and make a name for himself. He assembled a team of about 200 medics, geologists, and cartographers to map and found his own settlement within the Sickly Forest
Docking in the port city of Yord, he and his team set off into the uncharted areas of the forest with two main goals:
- To find the source of the sickness that causes anyone who ventures into the forest unprotected to die of an unknown pathogen.
- To find his ideal swath of land, a fertile yet resource-rich land where he can pursue his scientific dreams alone, with a town of like-minded scientists to assist him until his death.
However, after 5 days into the expedition, 85 men would die of the unknown sickness, all of them being cartographers. While this proved to be a setback for the expedition as a whole, Ediye would not be fazed and even attempted to push his team to walk longer and to take fewer breaks.
As a result of this, 30 of his men died of exhaustion 4 days later, and he stopped pushing them to their limits and instead allowed them more breaks.
On the 23rd day of the expedition, the surviving 60 men, plus Ediye, found the ideal plot of land. 70,000 acres of a lightly forested grassland, rocky hills in the distance, and a small stretch of flat land where planes can land and allow scientists and miners to become residents of his new town.
Satisfied that he found his new home, he almost turned around to venture back into the wilderness to return to Yord, only to remember all his cartographers died in the first days of the trip. Lost and losing his mind, he started mining what would be later known as uranium-235, some of the little bits of naturally unenriched uranium in the forest and built his house out of it.
While he went mad, the other men would start setting up shop, building what would become their homes and businesses, and a rudimentary road system within the town. The matter of governance did not matter to them, since there was not enough people to justify government yet. What Ediye's team did, however, was exile him to the farthest reaches of the town, to keep his madness away from ruining their new society.
This would push Ediye to his breaking point, since he was the leader and founder of this expedition into the unknown, not them who had done nothing but build a functioning society. So he would make sure that they all regretted their decision, and proceeded to collect as much plutonium and gallium as possible, melting and fusing the materials together to make an alloy capable of creating a highly radioactive ball when stacked in a certain way.
2 months later he had enough alloy to make a 40 pound sphere, capable of producing enough radiation to kill the upstart town. So on the edge of sunset, before everyone woke up, he started stacking the alloy blocks, having a special alloy sphere for the middle. At 4:39 AM exactly the first man came out of his house, saw what Ediye was doing.. and ran back inside to grab his rifle, but before he could Ediye removed the piece of metal, completing the sphere and causing anyone in a 6 mile radius to get more than triple a lethal dose of gamma radiation.
Ediye would survive the first demon core completion, and anything after the eradication was erased, be it by Ediye's untrustworthy notes, or general erasure by the Enotian government. It was only in 1992 when the site was rediscovered and Ediye's final invention was found; The Ballistic System to accompany the demon core. It would be promptly taken, reversed engineered and produced at a slow rate.
Significance
To quote the words of Commissar Sebastian:
Its a irridation bomb that creates a near-permanent irridated zone of about 1200 miles. Shut up.
If anyone in any part of the Galaxy says that this isn't significant, they might as well have signed either a death warrant or brought upon a curse within their immediate vicinity, because this monstrosity of a weapon will kill you and your family with an agonizing and slow death.
As for the people within Enotis, they see this as a purifying weapon, meant to cure or eliminate both the infidels and the weak, allowing the strong to rise from the radiation caused by them and accepting them with open arms. For those who join Enotis after seeing their fellow culture decimated, others amongst the galaxy(who knew the culture well) will demonize them, call them out, and curse the DCBS for allowing such a person to join an evil empire.
