The Ember Vault
The Ember Vault
Lower Sprawl, First City, Chendiuria
Overview
The Ember Vault is the Red Dragons Tong’s primary cybertechnology repository, fabrication facility, and secure augmentation archive located deep inside the Lower Sprawl. From the street the site appears to be a decaying multi-level electronics recycler and salvage warehouse wedged between two vertical tenements near the First City docks.
The visible structure is only the skin.
The real Ember Vault lies nearly ninety meters below street level in a hardened subterranean complex built into an old industrial geothermal heat exchange chamber. The constant warmth of the earth and nearby fission desalination conduits gives the facility its name.
Inside, the air smells faintly of hot circuitry, ozone, and machine oil.
Founding and Circumstances
The Ember Vault was created roughly in 2767 CE when the Red Dragons Tong recognized that control over cybernetic augmentation and repair networks was becoming more valuable than traditional narcotics trafficking.
At the time, Chendiuria’s Lower Sprawl was flooded with poorly installed black-market augments from hackjobbers of wildly varying skill.
The Tong leadership made a strategic decision to control the supply chain instead of the street dealers.
Using profits from early smuggling operations, the Red Dragons quietly purchased an abandoned geothermal industrial complex originally used to regulate underground heat transfer for a failed manufacturing district.
Over several years they converted the cavernous chambers into a fortified cybertech laboratory and vault, expanding into the old subterranean tunnels.
History
Notable Historic Events
The First Burn-In, 2767 CE
The Ember Vault began operations installing high-end augments for Tong leadership and elite enforcers.
The Black Firmware War, 2776 CE
A rogue software collective attempted to infiltrate the Vault’s cyberware firmware repository. The attempt triggered a quiet internal purge that eliminated several compromised technicians.
The Titanium Heist, 2785 CE
A shipment of rare composite skeletal reinforcement components stolen from a Martian freighter was brought into the Vault and distributed through Tong-controlled cyberdocs.
The Iron Lotus Upgrade, 2794 CE
The Vault completed a series of custom combat augmentations for a Red Dragons strike unit that later crushed a Ruby Monkeys expansion attempt.
The Quiet Pact, 2811 CE
The Tong reached an understanding with several Lower Sprawl hackjobbers: those who cooperated with Ember Vault technicians gained access to higher quality parts.
Notable Historic Persons
Master Technician Zhou Yanting Takeshi Kō Ren, 2546 - 2779 CE
Mars trained and certified founder of the Ember Vault’s cybernetics division and one of the most respected underground cyber engineers in First City.
Doctor Aleksandra Nelli Akilina Iya Kovács, 2541 - 2772 CE
Former Mars corporate cyber surgeon who defected to the Lower Sprawl and redesigned many of the Vault’s surgical suites.
Bao “Iron Spine” Xiaoping Heng Xinyi Yanping Lian, 2555 - 2780 CE
A Tong enforcer whose heavily modified skeletal frame became legendary after surviving multiple assassination attempts.
Chen Shi Jianping Zhi Qian Meilin, 2544 - 2769 CE
Logistics architect who organized the Vault’s encrypted augmentation inventory system.
Structure and Facilities
The Ember Vault consists of multiple specialized chambers.
Cybernetic fabrication labs
High-security component vaults
Augmentation surgery theaters
Firmware engineering bays
AI diagnostic cores
Cryogenic neural interface storage
The central chamber is known as the Furnace Ring.
It houses several advanced matter transformers used to produce custom cybernetic parts and structural components.
Production
The Ember Vault produces or modifies:
combat-grade neural interfaces
subdermal armor reinforcement modules
limb replacement cybernetics
neural firmware packages
augmented sensory implants
combat exoskeleton control systems
Many of the Red Dragons’ elite fighters receive their augments here.
While the Vault does not openly sell augments to the public, its technicians quietly service select clients who can afford the price.
Economic Activity
The Vault’s official cover operation is an electronics salvage and recycling cooperative.
Goods passing through include:
scrap cyberware
salvaged processors
damaged neural nets
military surplus components
The legitimate front sells refurbished electronics to Lower Sprawl residents.
The hidden economy inside deals in far more advanced technology.
Current Leadership
The Ember Vault is overseen by the Tong’s cybernetics council.
Current notable persons include:
Master Engineer Liang “Ashhand” Wu
Chief cybertech architect of the Vault.
Doctor Selene Novak
Lead surgical specialist responsible for advanced augmentation installations.
Administrator Cai Yun
Financial controller who manages the Vault’s extensive underground revenue streams.
Commander Jian “Cold Coil” Zhao
Security director responsible for protecting the facility.
Ownership
On paper
The Ember Vault is owned by the Lower Sprawl Industrial Salvage Cooperative.
In reality
It is wholly controlled by the Red Dragons Tong.
The cooperative is simply a legal shell used to disguise energy consumption, material shipments, and maintenance activity.
Security
Security around the Vault is extensive but subtle.
Street level security includes:
Tong lookouts
camouflaged surveillance drones
electronic intrusion monitors
Subterranean defenses include:
armored blast doors
AI-assisted intrusion detection
neural signal jammers
automated defense turrets
Only trusted Tong members or approved clients ever reach the lower chambers.
Gang Interactions
Red Dragons Tong
The Ember Vault is one of the Tong’s most closely guarded assets.
Copper Elephants
Occasionally supply salvaged industrial cybernetics recovered from dockside machinery.
Ruby Monkeys
Have attempted to infiltrate the Vault twice in its history. Both attempts ended badly for the attackers.

Cultural Role
Within the Lower Sprawl, the Ember Vault is spoken of almost mythically.
Some residents believe the Tong can rebuild a person entirely from metal and code there.
Others say the Vault stores stolen military implants from half a dozen worlds.
Most of those rumors are exaggerated.
But not all of them.
Importance
The Ember Vault gives the Red Dragons something far more valuable than territory.
Control over the bodies of those who live in the Sprawl.
In a world where augmentation defines survival, whoever controls the cybertech controls the future.
