Way of the Zodiac

Way of the Zodiac

Monks who find the Way of the Zodiac learn a number of techniques and attacks which are linked to the star signs they choose. Drawing upon ancient techniques, you become able to infuse your attacks with celestial energy and channel the power of the Zodiac.

Zodiac Strike

Beginning at 3rd level, you gain the ability to perform a Zodiac Strike once per turn when making a melee attack with an unarmed strike or monk weapon by spending 1 ki point. You gain a benefit depending on which star sign you are channeling.

Star Sign

When you select this monastic tradition at 3rd level, choose a star sign from the list below. You gain the ability to begin channeling the star sign as an action. You are able to channel the selected star sign for a number of rounds equaling 1 + your Wisdom modifier.   You may choose an additional star sign at 6th and 11th level. At these levels, you may also replace any star sign you know with another.   Bear. The bear is a symbol of endurance and authority When channeling the sign of the bear, you gain temporary hit points equal to half your monk level whenever you hit with a Zodiac Strike.   Boar. The boar is a symbol of fury and strength. While channeling the sign of the boar, any time you roll maximum damage on a die with a Zodiac Strike, you may reroll the die and add the new number as additional damage.   Cobra. The cobra is a symbol of sickness and alacrity. While channeling the sign of the cobra, you may make one normal attack every time your Zodiac Strike misses.   Crane. The crane is a symbol of divinity and flight. While channeling the sign of the crane, your Zodiac Strikes are considered to have reach.   Dragon. The dragon is a symbol of might and potency. While channeling the sign of the dragon, your Zodiac Strike deals an additional 1d8 fire damage.   Mantis. The mantis is a symbol of patience and precision. While channeling the sign of the mantis, whenever a creature within your reach makes an attack against a creature other than yourself, you may use your reaction to make a Zodiac Strike against the attacking creature. You must still spend 1 ki to make this attack.   Monkey. The monkey is a symbol of mobility and strategy. While you are channeling the sign of the monkey, you may move up to half your movement speed without provoking attacks of opportunity each time you deal damage with a Zodiac Strike.   Ox. The ox is a symbol of indomitability and recklessness. While you are channeling the sign of the ox, each successful Zodiac Strike you make forces your target to make a Strength saving with a DC equal to 8 + your Wisdom modifier + your Proficiency bonus. On a fail, the target is pushed 5 feet.   Snow Leopard. The snow leopard is a symbol of persistence and confusion. While channeling the sign of the snow leopard, you may use Zodiac Strike as a reaction when an enemy strikes you. If your attack hits, you may teleport to an adjacent space. You must still spend 1 ki to make this attack.   Stag. The stag is a symbol of speed and freedom. While channeling the sign of the stag, you may move an additional 10 feet after hitting with a Zodiac Strike. You do not provoke opportunity attacks from the creature you hit with Zodiac Strike.   Tiger. The tiger is a symbol of stealth and ferocity. While channeling the sign of the tiger, your Zodiac Strikes score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.   Wolf. The wolf is a symbol of group tactics and aggressive daring. While channeling the sign of the wolf, your allies have advantage on melee attacks against an enemy which you hit with Zodiac Strike during your last turn.

Fist of the Heavens

At 6th level, when channeling a star sign, you may infuse your Zodiac Strike with the fate-determining power of the stars by expending an additional ki point. If your Zodiac Strike hits, your target's next attack roll, saving throw, or ability check is made at disadvantage.

Channel Hemisphere

Beginning at 11th level, while channeling a star sign, you may spend an additional ki point when using Zodiac Strike to briefly channel a second star sign you know. The Zodiac Strike gains the benefits of both star signs as detailed in their individual descriptions above.

Swift Channel

At 17th level, you may begin channeling any star sign you know as a bonus action instead of an action.
