Salamanca Friday (a.k.a. Sal)
Salmanca "Sal" Friday is the gnomish secretary for Private Investigator Chiaroscuro Gray. Her vibrant colours are a stark departure from the greyscale of the detective's aesthetic. She is a good cook and serves a breakfast for herself and Gray. Often Gray's sidekick, Axel Webb, also attends (although for him it is dinner) on his way back to his own apartment from working the night shift at the Arkham Caine Museum of the Occult. She knows that Axel is often short of cash to feed himself and that both Gray and Axel would have a far less healthy diet, consisting of mostly bagels from Ikey Poggle's bagel stall and skipped meals, if she didn't ensure they ate properly.
Gray hired her in no small part because she makes the best coffee he has ever tasted and he is unable to find anyone else who can replicate the effect. The secret truth is that Sal adds three heaped spoons of sugar to the coffee, something that the detective would be displeased to learn if he ever found out; not because of the health concerns (he had enough unhealthy personal habits for that to barely scratch his radar), but because adding sugar to his coffee would compromise his dark and gritty aesthetic. So Sal just doesn't tell him.
Like most people in Axel's life, 68-year-old Sal still views him as very much still the 14-year-old child she first met him as, despite that being 10 years ago. She gifted Axel the rhombocrystal (also known as a Lady Luckstone) to keep him safe while out in the city with the detective. The rhombocrystal is said to attract the affection of Lady Luck, known, in gnomish tradition, as Nivi Rhombodazzle.
