Summer camp preparation homework
As is tradition, another summer camp, another attack on the diamond badge.
This time, hopefully, without repercussion in the form of burnout for a year.
I tried to use this preparation article as a reflection on my setting, and the concepts behind the upcoming prompts and thought about ways in which they could be incorporated.
Any idea that I got during the preparation I wrote here, as this article will be referenced during the prompts and thus the Ideas wont be lost.
This will be rather tricky if I do not dive deep into the Flow abilities. Political power and various groups with influence and individuals will most likely be all around the 6 Major Atocites, the Planners running them, and possibly notable Raiders, who are able to hunt highly dangerous targets for high-quality materials.
Let's not forget that power in terms of Influence can go to notable individuals in terms of Refiners and lastly Traders. Influence in this context means that anyone with their own agenda has the means to advance said agenda through the use of others. Every Grand Atocite specializes in something, which gives them an advantage over the others. Perhaps this creates tension between the different groups, hoping to attain the advantage others have for themselves.
Maybe the areas themselves have these wild and competing borders? May sound nice if done right. Area Idea: Untamable wild
While the majority of locations could be somehow influenced by constant raids and occasional overhunting of a species, the untamable wild is the fastest-changing location. Meaning that any change done during the short time of Raid is easily erased by the nature of the area. Regarding Frontiers in advancements, if there would be some science-related prompt, I could finally cement down some technological level of the civilization currently on the Atocitera.
How better to show this seemingly invisible progress than with a comparison to the past? Items that were key components in current legends still keep their power and their uses.
The problem with them is that they simply fell out of the "meta". They are no longer the best thing to employ for a given task. Idea: One of the Grand Atocites made a museum for these relics. Even allowing anyone to borrow them for study. Just so people of the present could have a reference to the past. All in the hope that some talented individuals create a branch of concepts that are parallel to the current studies and knowledge. In regards to history, perhaps making sure that the struggle is kept. The world may be constantly changing. But it is changing to be stronger, to be its best possible version. This change is neutral. It does not care if people make their personal sanctuaries on flying mountains. The reason why the people on Atocitera survive is that they change with the world. They grow, they adapt, they overcome the obstacles. This would perhaps be an ideal time to toss in some of the fallen Atocites. Some still float on the Flow but are abandoned simply because the group inhabiting them was not good at surviving.
These may be floating above the worst possible areas, or perhaps their fall is what contributed to the uncontrolled growth of the areas.
Be it in the form of letter deliveries via the traders visiting them, or through other, more magical means. For letters the main obstacle is the direction of the Flow, meaning that any kind of physical warning about a related location does not get to those who need the warning in time.
In order to send messages and give any sort of warning to Atocite which is about to enter the same area, a less physical method needs to be used, as it must travel "backward". Idea:
Perhaps some sort of artificially created cloud could be used for this, bearing color to signalize either no dangerous change in the environment or if a very dangerous change has been noticed. Even a color suspecting something is wrong with the environment and needs further investigation?
This colored communication could give at least a semblance of warning for Raiders who are about to descend into the area. Explaining any future findings would then be easier, as it can facilitate the forward direction of Flow.
