Gelen Voldarin IV
Gelen IV, called Gelen The Old, born Gelen Bareth Voldarin, was the last "king" of the Sovereignty of Lysandria before the foundation of the Kingdom of Lysandria under his successor Ulmen I. As such, he is sometimes formally referred to as Gelen the Old, Last Sovereign of Lysandria.
Early Life
Gelen Bareth was born the only son of Gelen Agroth Voldarin and Llyn av-Barritz in the Manor Lysa during the reign of his great grandmother Cecilyn the Usurper. He was known to be gentle and kind to the other children and to the house-slaves, but tended to keep to himself instead of going out of his way to play with other children. WIPLater Life and Death
After the death of his wife Ayliya, his son Rhond, Rhond's pregnant wife, and his grandson, Gelen sank into a deep depression and died soon after, leaving no clear heir. The Lysandrian Succession Crisis occurred as a result following his death, after which Ulmen I took the throne.Legacy
Gelen is remembered fondly by most Lysandrians as a benevolent ruler. He's considered to have been extremely kind, gentle, and compassionate by most of the population. However, his failure to ensure the line of succession and to balance the royal budget placed Lysandria in an exceptionally vulnerable position after his death, and so many scholars rate his rule more harshly than the average person does.Remove these ads.
