Veil Sealers and Shroud Makers

Veil Sealers are a mix of technology and magic developed to seal rifts to other planes. They take many forms these days, but the common appearance is that of a runed bracer on one wrist.
These devices store energy from another device known as a Shroud Maker, a large construction that absorbs energy from the atmosphere to create the required magic for sealing Rifts.
Shroud Makers are often found in possession of organisations who stand to confront the Rifts such as the Rift Hunters and Order of Saint Lyra. Some wealthy collectors also have them in their possession as an object or rarity and status, although rarely make use of them.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Veil Sealers are created from a mix of copper and bronze, etched with various runes and seals and set with an infused Gemstone. The Gemstone has to be bathed in a Shroud Maker for a month to gain the required energy to be used for sealing.
Once infused, the Gem is set within the metal and bound with other fine metals and workings to enable the energy from within to flow out of the Sealer. The number of Rifts a device can seal depends upon the size and quality of the gem, along with the size of the portal it closes. The largest of portals can require multiple Veil Sealers in order to close them.

Significance

Before these devices were created, Rifts had to be closed by those with enough magical knowledge to do so. Such individuals, while not rare, were spread too thin to tackle the threat efficiently. Once these devices were created, the Rifts could be closed by anyone with some minor tutelage, and greatly aided the efforts.
Despite their functional use and key importance in closing rifts, there is some belief that the Shroud Makers are causing the rifts themselves in drawing in the essence of the Veil. This absorption is something believed to be causing the veil to weaken thus causing more rifts. Such research has been neither proved of disproved and is still under going.

Veil Sealers are not exceptionally rare, many having been historically made during the Rift Era. Shroud Makers are rarer however, with their construction difficult and requiring rare materials from other planes in order to be created.
