Fiendish Differences

Demons and Devils both originate from the Abyssal Depths and share many features but also have differences in how they outwardly act and inwardly think. To most common folk, they distinguish the difference as Devils possessing sentience in order to deal, bargain and infiltrate, while Demons are more akin to animals, acting on pure instinct to destroy.
In actuality, demons can be just as cunning and ruthless as devils if needed and demons can lash out just as instinctively. The natural difference is from the way that each group lives and reproduces. Devils require souls to consume to reproduce, using the energy from the souls in magical rituals to create new devils. Demons however consume souls for energy required to more naturally reproduce with each other.
Due to this, Devils require to obtain souls to be used either via deals, trickery or murder where needed. However the delicacies of storing a soul mean the latter option is only used in times where the first options fail. Demons however can rip the souls from their victims while killing them so have no need to be delicate or careful around their attacks.

Manifestation

Due to this difference, demons and devils often invade Athoria in different manners. When a rift to the Abyssal Depths opens, a horde of demons will often pour through, seeking to indiscriminately murder and ravage any in the local area. Meanwhile a small strike team of demons will usually slip by during the chaos. These Devil teams usually end up remaining in the world after the rift is closed, harvesting souls until another rift opens for them to return home. The demons however, once sated on their prey, will retreat immediately back to their home plane.
