Dragons in Athoria

Dragons in Athoria are the results of principles and concepts being given living form. Dragons have existed as long as Rifts have, as the wild energy from the openings often condense into places to form dragons. These can be formed from warping existing creatures such as wyverns or simply formed from the base material of the world if enough energy and purpose can be found in one location.
An exmple of this would be Paper Dragons which form in places of great knowledge. If enough rift energy condenses in a large enough library then lose pages and scrolls may form into an egg that may develop into a dragon given time and nurture.
Due to the unusual way Dragons come into being in Athoria and their reporductive cycle most dragons are sexless but often choose a gender to represent them when dealing with the other mortal races based on what appeals most to them.
What concepts may become a dragon is on ever growing list as more are discovered. Some form from the types of rifts that spawn them such as Magma Dragons emerging from the Plane of Fire, while others form simply due to the region they may appear in such as Mercury Dragons may appear in concertrations of the metal.
