Dice and Card Games

Gambling is a staple of most places in the world, either as a recreational past time or for more competative stakes in larger tournaments. Gambling on Rift Strike, to simply tossing some dice in a back alley, there are plenty of ways to win and lose money in Athoria.
These are a list of common games played in local taverns or gathering places that can be easily picked up.

Monarch's Ascent

This game has two versions, one using Dice (Called King's Ascent) and A standard deck of cards (Called Queen's Ascent). Both games work in the same way but with a different way of "dealing hands".   The game is played by player taking turns as the King or Queen and another player as a contender. With multiple players, play goes around a table, challenging the person to the left of the current Monarch. Once the challenge is complete the contender becomes the next Monarch and play continues clockwise.   Using cards, all players are dealt 7 cards from a standard deck which may include jokers. Using die, each player uses 3 twelve sided dice. With dice, they are rolled in secret for both Monarch and Contender to play with. The Monarch then selects one card or die to reveal to the contender. The Contender then secretly picks one of their cards of die to play against. The Monarch then needs to guess if the secret pick is higher or lower than their revealed number.   The contender then reveals their card and if the Monarch guesses correctly, they win a point (represented by keeping the pair of used cards in front of them with cards or a tally with die). If they guess incorrectly, the Contender wins a point. If the contender plays a number that matches the Monarch, the monarch wins regardless of choice. With cards play continues until all hands are empty. With die, play is generally run for stakes rather than points so continues until players quit or can run until a certain amount of points are won.   If playing with Jokers, a Monarch playing the Joker draws a new card from the deck and checks it before hiding it beneath the joker. This way the Monarchy knows their card value but the contender does not. If a Contender plays a Joker, they draw a random card from the deck when revealing to compare higher or lower score.   Aces count as low with the exception when an ace or king is played by the Monarch. In the case an Ace is played by the monach it counts as low with the exception of if the contender plays a king, then it counts as high (Any card is higher than an ace except the king which is lower). In the case a King is played by the Monarch then Ace counts as High. This way the Monarch cannot force a gaurneteed win by playing an ace of king.   Finally, if playing with multiple players you can opt for challneging others rather than going around the table. In that case, you may challenge any other player with a lower or equal score to your own. If you are the lowest scoring player, you may challenge any other player. This way if one player pulls ahead, others have a chance to catch up.
