Session 09: Duel Intentions

General Summary

With Azas and Farkas at each others throats, our heroes initially watch and listen to hear Azas accusing Farkas of the death of the mayor. Before it can get too bad however, William Grimhound steps in and offers everyone a drink if they calm down. He then offers to do so naked, but nobody takes him up on his offer. Ultimately, its the work of Loanedth and Nil-enor Ulkas who convice the townsfolk in, using a devious spore technique.

Once inside, a zone of truth and intimidation from William and Gul'Khaan forces some of the truth out. And when the two resident strongboys drag Ser Charles Greenleaf upstairs by his ears, he admits that he is no Ser. In his personal goal to join the Army of the Republic, Charles thought that if he posed as an investigator and solved the crime, he would be allowed in. William warned him that impersonating a member of the guard could be considered a felony, and Charles, repentant, told them that the body of the mayor reeked of ozone: a sure sign that magic was at hand in his death.

Armed with this information, our party corners the resident casters, and someone breaks. But not one that the group had yet payed any attention too. Erinyen, the resident courier, cast an enchantment on Farkas, causing the farmer to loose a shot a William. A full on fight breaks out, and as Loanedeth and William chase after the suspect, Azas takes the shot as proof of Farkas' guilt, and beats him within an inch of his life. Gul'Khaan uses his Yew Staff, and unleashes a beam of divine fire upon Farkas. But in so doing, unleashes the unrestrained potential of the staff, and a wave of fire sends him to the ground.

Nil-enor's quick casting saves Gul'Khaan and Farkas' life, and Azas gets tied up. But as Erinyen crosses the threshold of a garland arch, with William behind, William finds himself alone, deep in a strange twilight woods with hanging lights and a deep and ancient drum beat. When Loanedeth sees William disappear, they return to the scene, and announce: "William vanished."
