Teachings of the Church of the Dead God

In the beginning, there was only the lone consciousness of the Dead God. From Its will, It created a body for Itself made of voidstone as well as the void to live in. For aeons the Dead God lived alone in the void. With Its power, It created Atem, the world opposite of the void; filled with life. The Dead God breathed into the world to create the first living creatures. They held the Dead God's interest for only a while, as It became lonely without any other intelligence. For all Its might to create worlds, the Dead God could not create the companions It desperately needed. Without a reason to live, the Dead God decided to use Its own heart, the core of Its power, to infuse Its life with intelligence. It created the first men of Atem. In Its final moments, the Dead God watched Its creations and smiled; knowing happiness for the first time in eternity. As a final act of kindness, the Dead God chose a human to host some of Its power to shelter and guide mankind. The Dead God died watching Its creations. Its joyful eyes still watch over Atem and the humans, unblinking in death.   The church honors the sacrifice of the Dead God by performing rituals under the full black moon in the hopes that the Dead God will see them and be pleased. Evil creatures intent on destroying humanity are slaughtered, prayers are offered, and festivals are performed on this night. The story and sacrifice of the Dead God are ritually taught and memorized by its worshipers so that they will never be forgotten.
