Church of the Dead God
"To remember the Dead God is to honor It. To honor the Dead God is to repay It in only the slightest way for Its sacrifice."-Prayer among the Church of the Dead God
Structure
Each cluster of believers follows a single leader known as a Speaker, who "speaks for the dead god". Groups typically only consist of less than ten members. Each member follows the commands of the Speaker without reservation.
Public Agenda
The church hopes to spread their beliefs of the Dead God to all mortals and make them honor Its sacrifice.
Mythology & Lore
Divine Origins
The first believers of the Dead God existed in the early years of the Era of Domination. Soon, the belief of the Dead God became widespread and became the dominant religion. Many often claimed to possess powers granted by the Dead God and were chosen as speakers to execute Its will.
After a few centuries, the church dwindled in numbers as many members forgot the Dead God and chose to worship other deities. Notably, the Faceless Order became prevalent among humans and usurped the believers of the Dead God as the dominant religion.
Since the beginning of the Era of Strife, many blamed the Church of the Dead God for the invasion of monsters and the fall of most empires. The resentment towards the group caused the violent removal of many of their members and has caused most believers to fall into hiding.
Tenets of Faith
Each full dark moon, the members must honor the sacrifice of the Dead God by making sacrifices and spreading Its story.
Worship
Believers often seek out voidstone and worship it. Seekers, on the night of the full dark moon, make a ritual of implanting the voidstone into a chosen member of the group to grant them the gifts of the Dead God.
