Silver Cloaks - City Watch
In the bustling, stone-clad city of Khormyr, where trade routes converge and ambition walks hand-in-hand with danger, the Silver Cloaks stand as the steadfast guardians of law and order. Recognizable by their shimmering silver-gray cloaks and engraved steel brooches bearing the emblem of a watchful eye, the Silver Cloaks are more than just a city watch—they are the shield between the people and the shadows.
Founded centuries ago after a failed coup nearly toppled the city’s ruling council, the Silver Cloaks were formed to be incorruptible, impartial, and unwavering in their duty. They serve not only as enforcers of the law but as investigators, peacekeepers, and protectors of the public welfare, rooting out everything from petty thieves and smuggling rings to seditious conspiracies and arcane threats. While many some of the other Last Cities cities rely on brute force and fear to maintain order, the Silver Cloaks are trained to lead with justice, diplomacy, and discernment—though they are no strangers to the sword when words fail.
Their ranks are filled with veterans, scouts, inquisitors, and even a few mages granted clearance to investigate magical crimes. Each member swears a binding oath to uphold the laws of Khormyr above all allegiances, and those who break that oath are exiled, if not worse. This honor-bound structure has earned them both admiration and enemies—especially among the city’s more corrupt factions, who see the Silver Cloaks as inconvenient obstacles to their ambitions.
Though their primary barracks and headquarters—the Argent Bastion—sits in the heart of Khormyr’s Civic Ward, patrols can be found in every corner of the city: the opulent Diamond District, the winding alleys of the Merchant District, even the shadowed docks where smugglers test their luck. In times of citywide unrest or emerging threats, the Silver Cloaks coordinate with the guilds and sometimes even adventuring parties to preserve the fragile balance of peace.
To the people of Khormyr, the sight of a silver cloak cutting through the fog or stepping into a crowded square is a symbol of hope—and a warning to those who would threaten the city’s safety. For as long as the Silver Cloaks remain, Khormyr stands protected.
