Olman Empire

Olman is generally used to refer to the Olman people, a stone-age human society of Asyur, although nowadays the word can refer to both the people and the language of said people. The Olman people mainly inhabited the north-eastern jungles of Veluntia, and were primarily a tribal people, though at their height they commanded a respectable empire.   Olman tend to have rich reddish-purple or dark blue skin tones. Their hair was always styled straight down and died black if not already naturally that color. Olman eyes were also dark but ranged in many colors like green, orange, and pink. Olman native to their own culture spoke an indigenous language simply referred to by the Historical Preservation Society as Olman.

Religion

The deities worshipped by the Olman are many and varied, and largely speculated on by current historians and sages.
  • Camazotz
  • Chitza-Atlan
  • Coatlicue
  • Hurakan
  • Mictlantecuhtli
  • Quetzalcoatl
  • Tezcatlipoca
  • Tlaloc
  • Tlazoteotl
The Olman have also been known to worship non-divine beings such as Xilonen and Xuxeteanlahucuxolazapaminaco as if they were true gods. A gas spore and a giant snail seem to have also played a part in their mythology.

Temples

Olman temples are usually step pyramids with entrances at the bottom corresponding to the four points of a compass.

Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan

The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan mentions, but does not name, other entities revered as gods by the Olman: a coyote (the Aztec god Huehuecoyotl), a crab-headed god (possibly Blibdoolpoolp, or perhaps more likely Kalka-Kylla), an alligator-headed god (probably Huhueteotl), a feathered warrior (probably the Aztec god Huitzilopochtli), a jaguar (Tezcatlipoca above or the Aztec god Tepeyollotl), a sun god (perhaps Tonatiuh), and a "dual-god, the supreme god, the god of creation" who fits the description of the Aztec god Ometeotl.

Rituals and Religious Holidays

Rituals to the Olman deities are typically performed every 20 days, corresponding to the various "signs" of the divinatory calendar. Each sign is ruled by a different deity. Sacrifices may take many forms, depending on the god. The public is required to attend every ritual, held at the temple of the appropriate god.

History and Legends

Olman legend states that the Olman gods discovered Asyur and the Olman people circa -5400 Merethic Era. At that time, the Olman had not migrated from their homelands. Some 500 years later, the Olman began warring with the lizard people in the jungles of Veluntia.   Olman civilization advanced much between -4900 and -4500 M.E., when they began working bronze and stone, and built great cities in the jungles, driving the lizardfolk west, beyond the great mountain range.   A great disaster befell the Olman city states of Alocotla and Xapatlapo circa -4100 M.E., when their high priests made a pact with the god Tlaloc, leading to the creation of the yuan-ti.

Current Population

The Olman people are currently believed to be extinct.
"...stranger things have happened than discovering the last of a dead race deep in some hidden jungle city. Someone just has to find it"
— Sage at the H.P.S.
