Fundamental Counter Item in Asyur | World Anvil

Fundamental Counter

Invented by Tessa and her Tech-Wizards within the Citadel of Fancy, the Mauve was the first ever FTL based ship built in the Sigma System. Accompanying this great feat is a number of equally important accomplishments that allowed for the smooth operation of the large crystalline ship.   One of these breakthrough inventions was the creation known in Reverie Coil as the Fundamental Counter. This extremely advanced clock is able to tell multiple different times, and easily convet between them, displaying a local ship time (LST). Back on the world of Asyur time is never refered to as in seconds, minutes or hours like in the city of Reverie. On the world a second or two is called a "breath or two", a minute would be a "goodly breath" where an hour or longer would be a "long while". Some concepts are known, like ten minutes is "three good songs". These change from culture to culture, like halflings who are known to talk from sunrise to sunset say "the fish has jumped" for a second.   Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) The scientific standard of timekeeping devised by Tessa's Tech-Wizards. It is based upon carefully maintained clocks and is highly stable. The addition or subtraction of leap seconds, as necessary, at two opportunities every year adjusts UTC for irregularities in Asyur's rotation.   Spacecraft Event Time (SCET) or Orbiter UTC The time something happens at the spacecraft, such as a science observation or engine burn.   One-Way Light Time (OWLT) The time it takes for a signal - which moves at the speed of light through space - to travel from the spacecraft to Asyur. From Greyanides, one-way light time can range from about one hour and 14 minutes to one hour and 24 minutes.   Sigma Received Time (SRT) or Ground UTC The time the spacecraft signal is received at mission control on Reverie Coil (the Spacecraft Event Time plus One-Way Light Time).   Local Time Time adjusted for locations around the globe of Asyur. This is the time most gnomes use to set watches and clocks.
