Dark Mere

The Dark Mere is the name given to a collection of 3 lakes of varying size that sit immediately north of the Stone Tooth Peak. The surrounding area is thick with overgrown trees and large ferns covered with massive hanging creepers that require constant sharpening of swords to cut through. The ground of the Dark Mere is wet and slick, the boots of a heavily armored knights sinking into the ground a good 8 inches.   On the southern/mountain side, the largest lake of the Dark Mere is somewhat accessible, with sparser trees.   Many hunters avoid this area, believing it to be a spot of rank foliage and malnourished animals. This is only somewhat true, however, as the animals of the area are not malnourished, but left to grown unchecked by man. It is unknown what predictors in the area keep the animal population in check, but it is believed that many bears call the area home, and some species of large mountain cat.   It has been discovered by the adventurer Nerrida, in 4126 SE, that the 3 lakes are all connected via an underground waterfilled cave system, and that one of the smaller lakes has a pit at some point in the lakebed that descends into many subterranean areas nearby.
