The Necroforges

Perhaps the most unique and coveted resource of Magnus, the Necroforges are a wonder of Arcane Advancement... Even though the secret of their creation was forgotten long ago. As with most culture, advancement and history in Eramis, many things are created, forgotten, and found once again. Such is the cycle of the Deserts, the way of the Sun Scorched Lands. The Necroforges were found amongst the Catacombs deep under Magnus by Cain and the Magnate, and for some time were its best kept secret. Until recently, few had any knowledge of their existence, let alone their capabilities.
While much is still unknown about these great Artifacts, their apparent primary function is simple, well documented, yet immensely advantageous. The Necroforges are capable of animating the dead... A mundane, trivial feat some may say, until they learn the scale and scope at which these Forges of Flesh and Soul operate. While an Adept Mage may be able to animate and oversee dozens of Undead at most, the Necroforges can output hundreds given the proper resources and skilled workers. Indeed, these Forges do not suffer the same limitations that the majority of Arcanists do in sculpting flesh and bone, being capable not only of animating the dead, but repairing them, reforming them, making them docile... With a skilled Forgemaster in command, the possibilities seem almost limitless.
These incredible tools still have their limitations though. They require bodies, and sometimes even souls, unable to craft something from nothing. And while a Forgemaster need not expend spells, nor any traditional knowledge of spellcraft, it still takes time, resources, and energy.
Still, for any aspiring necromancer the Necroforges are invaluable beyond compare, and many would desire to take them for their own gains... Many have tried in fact, though unsuccessfully to this very day. Magnus defends its Forges fiercely, refusing anyone or anything else to take them.
