Cain, the Unending

Lich Lord of Magnus, Last Scholar of Xeriok, Grand Archmage of Eramis, Cain is a man of many titles, and those who has stood in his presence can attest that he certainly lives up to them. Strangely, while Cain himself is a well known public figure, much of his personal history is shrouded in mystery, obscured by Legends and Glory and Titles. What the common folk do know is that he is an immensely powerful mage, a just ruler, a bringer of civilization to the Wastes of the Great Sand Sea. He is also believed to be the last surviving nobility of the Empire of the Radiant Soul), and is seen as one of the great beacons of Elven Civilization.
Cain is a mysterious figure, and much of that is by design. Most only know him as the Lich Lord of Magnus. Many believe him to be an elf who ruled the city before the downfall of their empire, a rumor he neither confirms, nor denies... But one he seems to encourage behind the scenes. He wears a majestic facade, a golden mask and elegant robes, and none have seen his true Visage in centuries. Aside from rulers hip over Magnus and the progress of Arcane Studies, he appears to have no other known motives nor goals.
In truth, however, Cain is no elf, and he has clear goals that only he truly knows. In reality, Cain is a human, but not just any human. Cain is the last living mage from the time of the Netherese. He bore witness to the rise and fall of his people. In fact, he was among the first of the Netherese. He was among the founders. He saw the cruelty of the Yuan-Ti, the strength of magic, the consequences of it, the hubris of his people... All of it. He watched as they were forgotten over the centuries. He watch countless nations rise and fall, and the continual decay of the Desert. His history is much like Eramis itself. Long, complex, and much of it forgotten. Rising and falling in power.
Most recently, however, he saw a chance and took it. With the coming of the Dragons, their ensuing war, and the fall of the Elves, Cain saw his opportunity to rise again... For his people to rise again. He saw the signs, and prepared accordingly. And while he did not foresee the coming of the Dragons, he was prepared for the fall of the Elves. He enacted his complex plan, taking the city of Magnus. Not exactly the same scale he was after, but a start. He let the people believe him to be one of their own, easier to rule them as such. And in secret, he started steering the course for the return of the Netherese, hoping to learn from past mistakes.
