The Betrayal of Caetos
Also known as Operation Bait-and-Switch, was an event where the Coalition lured unsavory individuals to board a galactic train that supposedly carried the Void rune in transit between two members of the Vaschule family. Meanwhile the real rune was hidden aboard a typical passenger train, using the other train as a decoy for safe passage. Sunny and his crew, joined by Matthias, were the most notable individuals who fell for the bait. When they arrived at the train cart right before the engine, they were blocked by Navarch Simon Geraldt. When met with this resistance, the 8 individuals brutally murdered him in cold blood. Luckily, Navarch Geraldt was able to apprehend and imprison Sunny and his crew for a short period of time, before being struck down by Matthias in a brutal showcase of Pirate savagery. This event is known as the Betrayal of Caetos because three influential characters from the church of Caetos participated. That being the widely accepted leader of the church, Matthias, a notable follower and paladin of Sunny, and an unnamed father from the church as well. It is unknown what happened to the Reflection rune or Sunny and his crew, however small reports have shown Matthias wielding parts of its power in his more recent exploits.
While originally a plot to undermine the Pirates and their image, it majorly backfired on the Coalition, leading to many siding with the Pirate Lords, and inspiring many of the newer Lords to pick up arms and join the Movement. Those who joined recently because of this event are known as the "Betrayers" after the event that caused them to join. The Pirate Lords who were inspired by Matthias and Sunny are Captain Pigeon, Sir Kickass, Sharko Mabombo, Kiratoji Kenkami, and Breaux Chacheaux Castelle.
