Cult of Avarice

The Cult of Avarice is a group that was formed in the Old World 10,000 years ago. Started by a group of people who admired Sir Geoff Castillo and his "Take from the rich, give to the poor" mentality. However, these admirers seemed to stop at the "Take" part of Geoff's philosophy, and formed a cult around gaining all there is to life, and a little more.

Avarice has never been well liked by outsiders, for their tendencies to take root in communities and suck them dry for all they have. The cult has had many different ways to get by all these years. They constantly change their name, and hide behind puppet leaders who claim things like "Ascension" or "Growth" as their main philosophies, all to protect their core principle of taking.

The Cult of Avarice has caused more tragedies than can be counted. They've turned luscious plants into deserts, they've caused races to go extinct. They monopolized runes and oppressed the weak. They've spearheaded scientific movements to make weapons of mass destruction. Including the Arcane Warhead, the nuclear weapon all races despise. However, they do not care, they only wish for more and more and more.

Avarice has no known symbol, markings, or any sort of historically identifiable feature, all that is known is they must take. About 20 years ago however, something has changed in the cult. They have begun to give. It started when a necromancer known as Jarr'Gin was executed by the Coalition for his practices. A year later he returned, as a lich with an army of undead and some of the most powerful magic known to the galaxy. Recently it was discovered that he was given an artifact of Vecna, that was recovered by a member of the Cult of Avarice, who used it to resurrect Jarr'Gin.

This pattern has repeated, with Avarice members freeing Geoff Castillo from his bonds, and giving a mysterious shapeshifting staff to a certain teal monk. The Coalition has been scrambling to squash the returning cult, but their adeptness at hiding behind the scenes and washing themselves from history has proven difficult to overcome. All that is known is Avarice has flipped a switch, and is giving away their prized possessions to cause chaos.

Currently, it is unknown where the Cult of Avarice is or which religion they are masquerading as. But one thing is certain, as long as there are possessions to be had, Avarice will be there to take them.
