Jirai Flameshadow

Jirai is an orphan. Like many children of corsairs, her parents died an early death. She was taken in by a kindly old man running an orphanage out of his own pockets, wanting to do some good in the world and that was that until she grew up and struck out on her own.... Would anyone actually believe things went that smoothly?
Jirai was taken in by an orphanage, and was one of hundreds of children to be taken into the small orphanage, that could house 50 at most if sharing beds. The hundreds that came in did not all survive, they were all test subjects, Jirai included. Many developed strange powers, were studied, and disposed of; some were used for medical experiments; all were stepping stones on their benefactor, Garnoro Chirak's path to immortality. Or so he planned. Jirai couldn't tell you even if she wanted to how often she was subjected to injections doing lord knows what to her over time, but she survived. By feigning subservience and genuinely being seen as too stupid to effectively plot any betrayal she managed to elevate herself to something of an assistant status and avoid the worst of the progressively brutal experiments. She learned, at her own slow pace, how to manipulate life to her own ends. Eventually Garnoro decided on a route to immortality and took it. He would live on by possessing others, and who better than his exceptionally able-bodied mentally feeble protege? Well, unfortunately for him he wasn't as brilliant as he thought and the process left him even more feebleminded than she. For now, at least. It's a good weapon and it feels good to turn the tables on Garnoro. No, taking parts of his name she's renamed him, Orochi.
