Astral Tides

Tyraskäth, this is the ancient name of the world that mankind simply refers to as "Earth". Believed to be the dream of an ancient, powerful deity of inconceivable nature, it is a large planet orbiting a pair of two binary Suns: the gloriously bright Golden Sun that brings light and warmth to the world, and the Copper Sun with its fiery orange glow, dimmer than its companion but prone to outbursts of light.   Recorded history of mankind can be traced back roughly 12000 years into the past, when a great ice age came to its end and the massive glaciers began to recede from lower latitudes. However, human civilizations have existed before that, with most of them collapsed during catastrophes, and new civilizations forming from the remnants of ancient tribes that survived. This continuous circle of civilizations rising and falling, the Cycle, with new ones emerging from formerly insignificant tribes, seems to repeat itself every few millennia, and each Cycle ends with natural disasters.   The historical records of the previous cycles have been lost, but they have become part of oral tradition, of myth and legend, and likely reach back to the era of the Elves, the Kh'Taraii, an ancient race that came from the stars, from another world under a different Sun, dozens of millennia ago, and disappeared in what was the greatest of all disasters, the Great Cataclysm, caused by a rip in the Veil between the physical and spectral planes. With the Kh'Taraii gone, the cycles continue like astral tides, and whatever has been awoken by them has never fully disappeared...
