Temri Death Lords

An organization of undead, the Temri Death Lords were forced to flee their star system by a system-wide eruption of life-based mana which nearly destroyed them approximately two thousand years ago. They built cities in the asteroids that are the core of their current empire and flung themselves into deep space, abandoning most of their subjects.
Ironically, the life mana caused some of those left behind to come partially back to life, and led to the establishment of the Temri Republic, which was recently uncovered by professor Fiona Welken of Solarium University. The inhabitants of this world are unusually inured to both life and death mana, though they cannot become true undead inside their system. The Death Lords have a strained relationship with their distant relatives, in part due to the perception that the Death Lords abandoned them to their ultimate deaths.
The Death Lords are now not large in number but are powerful in their sector.
