Senne

The senne (sin-eh) are a close-knit humanoid species, around two meters tall and somewhat more muscular than humans. They are known for their generally blue skin, star-like eyes, and warlike nature. They are prone to multiple births. While many senne are honorable, they vary wildly in their responses to other species.

Some senne have light green skin due to a mutation that came about when they left their home world.

Senne have an unusual ability to form psychic links among themselves, forming into triads, groups of three who share emotions and impressions across virtually any distance. This has led their people to form societies that are both closer and more distant than other species are used to, and they tend to be an insular people.

Unfortunately, the senne population tends to expand much more quickly than other species, and they are constantly on the lookout for new colony worlds because of this. Some factions of the species have taken to conquering lightly defended worlds, which had given them a fearsome reputation among some.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The senne are much like humans in overall anatomy, with the primary difference being their height and appearance, which leads some to wonder if they're an offshoot species of humans, while the senne sometimes argue the reverse. As their genetic code is just as close to elves and dwarves as to humans, it's believed that the gods created them with similar forms for some unknown reason.

Biological Traits

Senne tend to be taller than humans, with the females having broad hips to more easily accommodate their tendency to have multiple children in a single pregnancy.

Genetics and Reproduction

The senne don't reproduce differently than other humanoid species, though they are unusual in their tendency toward multiple births. Triplets are normal for them, though two children or four are almost as common. Only a single child is incredibly unusual, and it is far more common for them to have more children than less. While they aren't quite as fertile as humans, this coupled with their gestation period of ten months means that they tend to grow in population faster than humans do.

Growth Rate & Stages

Senne grow up at almost the same speed as other humanoids, reaching physical adulthood by approximately twenty-two standard years of age.

Ecology and Habitats

Senne are able to survive in most terrestrial habitats, but they prefer a slightly warmer climates.

Behaviour

Senne have an affinity with the number 3 and their items are often found in multiples of 3. A Senne organisation may be run by a group of three individuals known as a Trifecta.

One Senne can challenge another for control through the Rite of Succession.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

One of the most notable features of the senne are their eyes. Their iris tend to reflect light so that they seem to glow in most forms of light, and the coloration is normally blue, with white being relatively common, but yellow and red being reasonably common. Other species often compare their eyes to the light of the various stars.

Their hair is often black, blue, or red in darker hues, but other colors have been on the rise, with one colony beginning to have a small but growing percentage of their population with blond hair.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

For the most part the senne are no different than humans when it comes to their ability to perceive the world around them. The only exception is their ability to bond to other senne. Any group of three senne can bond to each other in a personal ceremony which takes no more than half an hour. This allows them to sense the emotions of each other, as well as what physical condition the others are in and the approximate direction they're located in, but nothing more. Some of their people have more powerful psychic talents, but they are by far the exception.

Civilization and Culture

Average Technological Level

The senne attained the technology allowing them interstellar travel without the assistance of any other species, something which they take as a point of pride. While they weren't quite as advanced as other species on making first contact, they have since integrated a great deal of technology, allowing them to match most spacefaring civilizations.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The senne have mixed relations with most other species, in part because they vary almost as much as those they've encountered. Some of them view other species as interlopers who occupy territory that rightfully should be theirs, while others prefer more peaceful approaches. That isn't to say that they don't have widely held opinions of other species, however.

Humans - Senne consider humans to be a volatile race, with as many variations as there are people. Without a solid idea of what any given faction of humans is going to do, they tend to hold back and wait for them to reveal their nature before making any decisions. As a consequence, many humans believe the senne are cold and isolationist.

Dwarves - The stereotype of dwarven craftsmen is one which the senne love, as they enjoy finely crafted goods, and as such they strive to build trade relations with dwarven groups. As dwarves are also known for their fortifications, even the warlike factions of the senne tend to avoid antagonizing them, as they'd rather focus on easier targets.

Elves - The long-lived elves fascinate the senne in many ways, but at the same time they also frustrate them. Elves act so slowly that many senne wish that they would make a decision and act instead. On the other hand, the more deliberate actions of elven societies is something that the senne find relatively comfortable.

Notably different are dark elves, which the senne find both beautiful and dangerous, and as such they have difficulties deciding how they should interact with them. Some clans have allied with dark elves, while many senne attempt to maintain unsteady trade relationships with them.

Goblins - Even more prolific than the senne, and at the same time destructive to the environments that they populate, the senne dislike goblins and consider them an infestation to be cleansed at the earliest opportunity. Unfortunately for them, goblins know just enough about technology to be able to build ramshackle starships, and have spread across the stars like a plague.

Orcs - The senne respect the warlike orcs, even if they don't like the culture orcs tend to prefer. They consider most orcs to be disorganized, uncivilized, and lack cooperation among their people. Still, they prefer orc neighbors to the far less predictable humans.

Senne Mechanics

Traits: Humanoid, Senne
Hit Points: 8
Size: Medium
Speed: 25 feet
Ability Boosts: Wisdom, Free
Languages: Senne, Standard, additional languages equal to your Intelligence modifier (if it's positive). Choose from the list of common languages.
Psychic Link: All senne are capable of forging psychic links with others of their species. A senne may forge a psychic link with up to two other senne as a 30 minute activity, which ends any previous psychic link. Each member of this link can sense the general direction and emotions of the other members, as well as whether the others are injured or unconscious. This ability only functions so long as they are on the same plane of existence, and moving through time at the same rate.
Lifespan
120 years
Average Height
1.6-2.1 meters
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Senne tend to have blue skin in various shades, ranging from a deep, almost midnight blue to those who are nearly indistinguishable from humans, they are so pale. A few mutations have led to some having purple or green hues to their skin color, but these are relatively rare.
