Energy Blade

These weapons are little more than the hilt of a sword-like object, and with a touch of a button create brilliant beams of energy that can cut through many objects. Energy blades vary in what type of energy they use, but almost all of them can cut through objects via extreme heat, though a few have been created that utilize other forms of energy, particularly electricity or the rare ones that use extreme cold. Energy blades use a combination of magic and technology to even function.
