Advent Festival
The Advent Festival takes place annually on the Isle Of Blossoming Joy to celebrate the ascent of Lilac to head of the House Of Joy around 1300 years ago. It begins five days before the summer solstice and lasts for three days.
Assassination attempts before or during the festival are common as family members attempt to eliminate potential rivals. Although the festival is planet-wide, the family gathering is restricted to a single island to minimize collateral damage should something really serious happen.
The festival begins with a parade on the opening day, during which Lilac sees the residents of the island from her float, then she tours the major cities via airship. It takes most of the day for her to complete, and she occasionally invites members of the family to join her, but usually does not. While that is occurring, there is a large family gathering in the main estate. This is primarily a method of letting all the family members meet one another, and is the only family gathering with strictly enforced non-violence. The festival ends with a fireworks display after Lilac addresses the entire family in the stadium.
