Model 8

This spaceship maybe be considered medium but it is by no way mediocre. In fact, it is the most successful and versatile military spaceship of all time.
A design of State Yards, Model 8 MkI, appeared in time for the Colonial Wars during which time it proved its efficiency and reliability. It ended up fulfilling roles never intended by its designers and its performance proved way above expectations resulting in huge orders and establishing the State Yards supremacy among ship building corporations.
Although most refer to Model 8 as a frigate, it is better armed and armored and the use of standard and proven designs and components has kept its price tag low enough for most planets to be able to afford at least a couple of them. Needless to say a number of "eighters", as it is affectionately known among spacemen, have found their way into the hands of contraband movers and pirates.
The most distinguished users of Model 8 include The Great and Honourable Donian Empire, The Great Amazonian Empire and, quite naturally, the Ordensian Empire.
Its current incarnation MkV, is still produced in large numbers and the impovements it carries make it always a fearsome opponent.
