Samsaran

“Mysterious humanoids with pale blue flesh and transparent blood like the waters of a trickling brook, samsarans are ancient creatures even in their youth. A samsaran’s life is not a linear progression from birth to death, but rather a circle of birth to death to rebirth. Whenever a samsaran dies, it reincarnates anew as a young samsaran to live a new life. Her past memories remain vague and indistinct—and each new incarnation is as different a creature and personality as a child is to a parent. Samsarans appear similar to humans, with dark hair and solid white eyes with no pupils or irises. Skin tones are generally shades of light blue. Capable of recalling the lessons and failings of their previous incarnations, the samsarans seek to live lives of balance and enlightenment in order to ensure they are reborn upon death to continue their trek through history.”   The Samsarans are revered as Kami to the commonfolk of Rokugan. Their endless cycle of rebirth leads the humans to believe that they are truly immortal and one with the gods. The Samsarans themselves do not see it this way. While they live for an unmemorable amount of time, and keep memories of their past, they are unmistakingly changed by their past deaths. A Samsaran that was good natured and kind before, may turn to be a heartless conniving monstrosity in their next life. Samsarans who die and begin reincarnation often look to their old selves as parents, rather than their personal past. Their memories seen more as lessons their ‘ parents ‘ would try to teach them.   One thing however always remains true, they seek out wisdom and enlightenment throughout their lives, always coming back to it. Because of this, even the most heinous and despicable Samsaran can appear docile and even well-natured to the average mortal. Because of this, the Samsarans are on rather good terms with the Nagaji, and the two have a mutual respect for one-another.
