Syanna's Grace
Purpose / Function
Constructed in the first year following the Magnum Malum by followers of Syanna, Paragon of Nature, this clinic was established to help the remnants of the imperial city stay well and survive after a few members of the small community of survivors died from neglect or exposure. Ilyria, the daughter of one of the deceased and a priestess of Syanna, founded the clinic to prevent further unnecessary loss of life.
It began first as a small tented field hospital, sectioned off from the rest of the community by barricades hastily constructed from the rubble of the buildings nearby. A few months later as winter began to set in, it became obvious a larger, more permanent facility was needed.
One of the few buildings that survived the impact event mostly intact was the Temple to Syanna, and so it was cleaned out and converted into a more permanent healthcare facility as well as continuing to serve as a temple to the Paragon of Nature. Syanna’s preisthood had traditionally been trained in medicinal arts and herbal healing balms, and Ilyria was one of the most adept. She taught her skills freely to those who volunteered at the temple.
Now, Syanna’s Grace is a prominent feature of the new cityscape forming from the rubble of the imperial city, a symbol of the determination of the Izantines to survive in the face of dire circumstances. The two-story building has been re-finished and expanded in the decades since the Magnum Malum, and features a large ward with more than enough beds for the sick to rest and be tended, a quiet chapel for contemplation of the Paragon’s virtues, and an extensive herb garden and apothecary. Anyone who needs food, medical care, or simply a quiet stroll in the lush gardens of the atrium can find solace within the whitewashed, vine-trellised walls.
