Teleportation

Teleportation is the general term used to describe someone or something traveling vast distances instantaneously, through magical or technological means. This can be in reference to the commonly known spell Teleport / Teleportation Circle, or to many other different methods and spells - the table below being an example of some. Homebrew opportunities are available for training spell casters to potentially use other spells outside their class options, such as a warlock learning teleport - talk to your DM for more, and see Training. The rest of this article will continue to describe teleportation, but within the context of the Teleport spell itself.

Teleport is a 7th level spell in D&D 5th edition that allows the caster to instantly transport themselves and any willing creatures to a location they are familiar with, even if they've never seen it before. The spell has a range of 10 feet per caster level, and can transport the caster and up to eight other creatures. The destination you choose must be known to you from either having been there or knowing the sigil combination if its a Teleportation Circle, and it must be on the same plane of existence as you.

Discovery

Teleport is a powerful magical ability that has been used by wizards and other spellcasters for centuries. It is said that the spell was first developed by the great mage Kethanar, who was known for his ability to travel vast distances in an instant. Kethanar was a reclusive figure, rarely seen outside of his tower, but it is said that he was obsessed with the concept of instantaneous travel. He spent years researching and experimenting with teleportation magic, eventually discovering a way to harness the power of the weave and bend space and time to his will.   Over time, other wizards and spellcasters learned of Kethanar's discovery and began to experiment with teleportation magic themselves. As the centuries passed, the spell became more refined and reliable, and it became a staple of arcane magic.   However, the use of Teleport has not been without controversy. Many governments and organizations have tried to regulate its use, fearing that it could be used for nefarious purposes, such as assassination or theft. Some even believe that the spell itself is dangerous, as it can be disorienting and even physically taxing for those who are unprepared.   Despite these concerns, Teleport remains a powerful tool for adventurers and spellcasters alike, allowing them to travel vast distances and bypass obstacles that would otherwise be insurmountable. Its versatility and power make it a highly sought-after spell, and its use is a testament to the skill and knowledge of those who wield it.
