Death's Maw

Death's Maw is a mysterious region; very few who have entered have returned alive. It appears like a dark forest of tall dead trees — even during the day it is dark, as if an aura from the region is dimming all light. Those who have returned have each given vastly different stories of what the deeper regions of the Maw look like: a bright field of apple trees, a peaceful village, serene hills full of flowers, etc. They all describe these incredibly appealing environments, but there's always one constant: they all felt like something was deeply wrong, a gut feeling that they were being watched, so they fled. Due to these stories, the few who know about the Maw believe that something, or some things, are manipulating the minds of people who stray too deep, showing them exactly what they want before they strike. These kinds of psychic attacks have only been seen used by sorcerers studying knowledge found in temples that belonged to the ancients.
